Sodium Vapour Lamp | HPSV E40

Sodium Vapour Lamp | HPSV E40

The High-Pressure Sodium Vapour (HPSV) Lamp with E40 base is a high-efficiency discharge lamp widely used for street lighting, industrial areas, and greenhouse farming due to its bright yellow-orange light and long lifespan.

Key Features

✔ Lamp Type: High-Pressure Sodium (HPS)
✔ Base TypeE40 (Screw-type, 40mm diameter)
✔ Color Temperature: 2000K–2200K (Warm Yellow-Orange)
✔ Luminous Efficacy: 80–150 lumens/watt (Highly efficient)
✔ Lifespan: 16,000–24,000 hours
✔ Warm-up Time: 5–10 minutes (needs ballast)
✔ Re-strike Time: 3–5 minutes (must cool before restarting)

Technical Specifications (Common Models)

Wattage Lumen Output Voltage Common Use
70W ~6,000 lm 220-240V Small streets, parking
150W ~15,000 lm 220-240V Medium road lighting
250W ~27,000 lm 220-240V Highways, industrial
400W ~50,000 lm 220-240V Large-area lighting

Working Principle

  1. Ignition: High voltage from the ballast ionizes xenon gas.

  2. Sodium Vaporization: Heat vaporizes solid sodium, producing light.

  3. Stable Operation: Sodium & mercury gases emit yellow-orange glow.

Advantages

✅ High Efficiency – Better than halogen & incandescent.
✅ Long Lifespan – Lasts 4–5x longer than traditional bulbs.
✅ Good for Outdoor Use – Resists weather & temperature changes.

Disadvantages

❌ Poor Color Rendering (CRI ~20-30) – Everything looks orange.
❌ Slow Start & Restart – Not ideal for instant lighting needs.
❌ Requires Ballast & Ignitor – Additional components needed.
